Nature walk at Herstmonceux Castle

I recently had the pleasure of leading a nature and conservation walk around the grounds of Herstmonceux castle in Sussex, whilst this was not a specific photography walk as such we did manage to see plenty of wildlife, a dozen species of Butterfly and 8 species of Dragonfly.

Here are some of the shots I did get.

Starting with the Dragonflies.

Damselfly

Emperor Dragonfly

Damselfly

And then a selection of Butterflies, because the site covers both woodland and meadow the range of butterflies present is brilliant.

Small Skipper

Meadow Brown

White Admiral

The White Admiral was particularly pleasing to get as I've been wanting to photograph this species for ages, and this site has a good population.

The ongoing management work should continue to increase the diversity of the site and future walks will be very interesting.
