Flip and spin

Whilst over the year I have done many fitness shoots, both individual and for groups, the other day I was given the chance to photograph Nick, who is a local 'free runner' who gives his moves a gymnastic twist.

We met up at Galley hill where we could set about getting some shots.

With this sort of shoot I really wanted to get some flips and think we manged to get those pretty well.

When shooting any sort of move, it is important to know what you want to shoot, the move will be made up of several parts, usually the approach, the set, the launch, the move (sometimes two), the landing and the exit. Straight away I decided not to focus on the the approach (as I have many running shots), we wouldn't really look at the set too hard (did get a couple but wasn't the main focus), the launch (again not really a focus), the move (the main focus, tried to make sure we got plenty of multi-shot series for this), the landing and exit again wasn't focused on.

I really liked the gravity defying shots as these were something I've not really tried before.

Then action shots from various angles, the importance of trying different angles for dramatic motion shots is often ignored.

springing off

Then sometimes you see a shot that works, I love the straight lines and angles in this one.

Then a fun looking at the camera shot.

And just to finish an bit of artistic license for dramatic effect.

If you want to have a look and see more of what Nick gets up to have a look at his Instagram profile @nickkrystahl . We already have had several discussions about other shoot ideas so hopefully more will follow.
