Small white
In general the White butterflies are a pain to shoot, as, along with most species they are sun lovers, and being white, often against dark plants getting the exposure right for a pleasing picture is often a little tricky. The best bet is to either wait for a warm but slightly cloudy day and hope one is feeling active enough to show up, or shoot early in the morning and try to get them just as they wake up. Fortunately this Small White appeared on a slightly cloudy day so I was able to get it in the afternoon, rather than get up at silly o'clock!
after getting the close-up typical species ID shot it was time to see if I could get a more natural 'in setting' shot, which I think worked very well!
It's strange that the Whites do seem to enjoy the pink Potentilla flowers, I often see them on there.
